Tips & Tricks For Using The Workspace
Welcome to the Community Workspace on Homelessness!
Some of you have been very active on the Workspace and engaging in great conversations. To help new members get up to speed, and help other members take it to the next level, we’ve collected a few tips & tricks for how to use the Workspace:
Adding / Replying to A Topic
- To add a forum topic, click on the + button on the green bar at the top of this webpage. Select “Forum Topic” and begin writing your post!
- To reply to any existing topics, go to the topic page, and post a comment below the post. You can similarly leave comments on any resources or events on the workspace. After you post your comment, you will then have the option to edit it if needed.
View the Workspace in English or French
This Workspace is bilingual, so you can view it in either English or French. To change the language, click on “en” or “fr” on the green bar at the top of this webpage. Please note that forum topics will display in the original language they were written in.
Tips & Tricks
Updating Your Profile
Once you sign up for the Workspace, you will have a public member profile. Some fun things to add to your profile include a photo, your social media information, and a short bio. To edit your profile, click on your name on the green bar at the top of this webpage. Select “Profile” then click on “Edit Profile” and start making changes!
Changing Your Privacy Settings
You can control who can sees your member profile information. To access your privacy settings, click on your name on the green bar at the top of this webpage and Select “Profile”. Click on “Edit Profile” and navigate to the “Privacy” tab.
You can send private messages to members of the Workspace.
- To send a message, click on the icon to the right of your name, on the in the green bar at the top of this webpage. Select “New Message”, type in the names or usernames of members you wish to contact, and send them a message.
- To view all your messages, click on the icon to the right of your name, on the in the green bar at the top of this webpage.
Subscribing to Content
When you subscribe to any content on the workspace (e.g. a discussion topic or event) you will get email notifications whenever there is any activity on that content, such as a comment or an edit. You can subscribe by clicking on “Follow” on the right sidebar of any content you wish to subscribe to. You will automatically be subscribed to any content you created yourself.
To access all your content subscriptions, click on your name in the green bar at the top of this webpage, and select “Subscriptions”.
Tagging A User
You can tag a member in a post by adding the @ symbol before typing their name or username, for example, Jesse Donaldson (COH). Once you start inputting their name or username, you will need to select the correct user from a list that will automatically appear. This is useful because the person will get an email notification whenever they are mentioned in a post. You can use this to engage someone to reply or bring their attention to useful information.
Sometimes you may support something that a person wrote, but not have anything to add. You can show your support or encouragement by clicking on the Like button next to their post, similar to Facebook.
Do you find yourself going to the same pages over and over? You can bookmark any page you are on by clicking on the second icon to the right of your name, on the green bar at the top of this webpage. Click on the + symbol to bookmark your current page.
